I have an itch to modify my setup.  I'm actually relatively happy with it, but I guess that's how it goes.  Here's a brief rundown:
Klipsch Heresy II mains
Klipsch Academy center
Klipsch CDT-5650-C ceiling surrounds
Mirage Omni S12 sub
Denon 3808 AVR

My room isn't that large, 11'6" wide and about 15' long to the back of the center loveseat.  It opens further into the kitchen and dining room, another 20' or so long.  I use it 70/30 music/HT.  The Heresys are great, but obviously lack bass.  The S12 sits under my left Heresy and blends in pretty well, but I crave the midbass "chest thump."  Sometimes I can be a bass head after a beer or two, and I really enjoy the rumble when I put on a good flick.  I've considered building something to replace the S12 and stick it in the corner where the Mirage used to live.  I have a decent amount of space for a single, about 4 cu ft.  I was pretty close to buying an Ultimax 18 when I read this thread of a guy with similar goals: DIY Musical Subs - Big Bass
In there, a guy recommended a pair of PA460s instead of an Ultimax after being disappointed.  Not sure if that's in the cards for me, but it got me thinking I was on the wrong track.  I could toss a pair horizontally opposed (front/rear) in a box in the corner and push them with an SPA1000 amp.
And/or, I've also considered building an end table sub and placing it between the sofas.  This would give me an enormous amount of flexibility.  I could conceivably create a 16 cu ft box in that space.  Though low bass is technically omnidirectional, I've always been a bit concerned about it being too obvious.  I'd also worry about it vibrating things off of it.
Or do I look for a pair of Klipsch Fortes to satisfy my midbass needs and do something else for a sub?

                        Get REW and a mike . .
go thru the tutorials , measure what is working and what is NOT working,
maybe it's placement issues, the huge attached volume, WAF, esthetics,
find out where your system is before deciding which direction you "think' you  need to go . .
What room  EQ are you currently using
and is that AVR really 10 years old?
you might consider 18's in end table builds, Marty cubes dressed up,  and a DSP amp to drive them and get some EQ you could use.
Just cause  it fits up there in the corner really pretty like,  yeah, probably not,
get inspired

                        Put a ported UM-18 in one corner (15-50hz) and a dual-opposed ported 460 in the other(50-200hz), powered by a nu6000dsp.
Then you'll have the best of both worlds: ULF and mid-bass.

When I see your build, I imagine the movers when you move.
One guy will say. "Nah, I got this..." then he'll be shocked it weighs 200 lbs. Then he'll try to open the doors to see what the heck is in there...

Stellar work, BTW.
